Ever wonder where we locals go to the beach?

 

We have a special place that has remained a quiet,

non-touristy locale to enjoy tropical waters, freshly caught seafood and the island vibe, and it does not take hours to get there, unlike many other popular beach based tours!

 

We begin the day with a visit to a local community known as the Hoyo, home to families from across the island and beyond. Far from the typical tourist trail, this stop offers a genuine glimpse into everyday Dominican life.

 

Here, we visit a small school founded in 2008. Today, it provides quality education to children who might otherwise have limited opportunities. Rather than a quick stop, we take time to interact with students and the community while classes are in session.

 

It is an experience many guests say they never forget.

 

Next, we explore three of the Dominican Republic’s most iconic exports: cigars, chocolate, and rum. We visit the region’s only volume cigar producer, where you’ll see the full process—from tobacco sorting and curing to rolling and storage—and even have the chance to try rolling one yourself.

 

From there, we sample some of the country’s finest rums at a comfortable tasting room. Guests can experience a range of rums aged from 5 to 21 years while learning what makes Dominican rum so distinctive.

Finally, we head north to beautiful Macao Beach, one of the region’s most scenic coastal treasures.

 

Enjoy fresh local seafood, relax in the laid-back atmosphere, and swim in the clear Caribbean waters or simply sit back and enjoy true island time, while we slam down the dominoes with a cold drink in hand!

Please note: the school operates Sept through June, though classes may pause during holiday periods.
