Higuey Circle

For many, a vacation in Punta Cana is all about white-sand beaches and five-star resorts. But have you ever wondered what lies beyond the resort walls?
Higüey Circle has been thoughtfully designed to give you a deeper understanding of life in the region. The reality is that many of the people who take care of you during your stay live in Higüey. This experience offers a chance to see a glimpse of their everyday lives beyond the resort.
We begin our day along the same scenic route as Munchies in Macao, with visits to a local barrio, a community school, and stops highlighting three of the Dominican Republic’s most iconic products: cigars, rum, and chocolate. From there, we take a different path, heading inland toward Higüey.
After a relaxed drive through the countryside, passing sugar cane fields and farmland that reflect what Punta Cana looked like before tourism, we arrive in the provincial capital: Higüey. As the region’s largest city and home to many resort employees, it offers a vibrant and authentic look at Dominican life.
We take the time to visit the landmark of the city, "the Basilica de Altagracia". This shrine is one of the most important in all of the Americas. In contrast to the modern design of the Basilica, we also visit the original church, which dates back to the very first settlement in the early 1500's.
We take a walk (weather permitting) through local markets—not a typical shopping stop, but a rich sensory experience full of colour, energy, and surprises. You never know what you might see.
Continuing through the city, we observe daily life and explore the area’s history, before returning to the Bávaro–Punta Cana resort area.
